`Google Buzz? More Like Buzz Kill' →
From Daniel Lyons at Newsweek:
And now, ta-da, comes Google Buzz, announced yesterday, and I swear to God I just want to start screaming. What is it? Apparently it is Gmail on steroids. Basically, Google has copied stuff that people do on Facebook and Twitter and added them to Gmail, so that now my e-mail can become another place where I can network socially with my social network of people...

The Facebook Privacy Debate →
To be fair I don’t blame facebook for the content its users post, it’s a tool - and provided it’s used wisely it’s useful enough.
I do blame facebook for the privacy policy flip, but I have my settings set very high.
For me FB is simply a means of monitoring people; family and friends who post updates and pictures to facebook. These are local people in the main, they know...

More messaging options
austpicious:
I’ve been experimenting with adding third party messaging and sharing applications to tumblr.
Disqus works well, in that it allows visitors to comment directly on individual posts on your page, rather than by reblogging it themselves - which they can’t do if they’re not tumblers.
Sometimes I’d rather see timely (and more directly personal) acknowledgement and sentiments rather...

SU v Tumblr, a personal view
Liked best about SU (these days): Easy sharing of sites and quick messaging. In other words the toolbar, as a utility, is the focus of activity for me now because SU’s other features are compromised in so many ways Reasons to retain my account: Three years plus worth of links, reviews and jottings — plus the ability to contact people and send and receive pages. I am still on SU because...
An alternate view
austpicious:
I’m starting to realize that tumblr isn’t big on substance or originality, but it seems to suit the many people who want to use it a ‘re-blog-by-adding messages-and-sending-around-to-my-friends’ kind of chain letter.
Some of the tumblrs formerly known as stumblers (and the most publicly dissatisfied ones at that) are turning tumblr into another circle-jerk enclave of recycled...

Tumbling vs Stumbling.
Background.
I joined Stumbleupon ( SU ) back in 2004, although it was a full year before I really became involved. Whereas I joined Tumblr in 2007, however I really didn’t become active until late in 2009. For me and many other regular Stumblers the uncertainty surrounding the latest version of the SU website led us to look for alternative, just as the Ebay takeover in 2007 ( now reversed )...

The New StumbleUpon →
kg13:
An opinionated summary for those who are still lost and bewildered (non-stumblers will want to skip) With the changes made final in December, the concept of friends was replaced with “mutual subscribers” and “direct shares” — creating a more distant, anonymous relationship between stumblers; one which focuses on what we do rather than who we are. The visual editor was removed and 22...
Tumbling or Stumbleupon .. Current Impressions
elledark:
Recently a lot of Stumblers have moved over to Tumblr or are spending more time there and less here. For some its because they didn’t like the ‘new’ stumbleupon, others got fed up with SU being dismissive of its bloggers, and some (like me) are simply trying out Tumblr because its been so dead on Stumbleupon lately that it hasn’t been much fun.
These are just a few first impressions...
Tumblr gripe...
I've noticed some duplication of content on Tumblr. I've seen some cool pictures from my subscriptions that inevitably get reposted as new by much more popular Tumblrs, and this makes me frowny. StumbleUpon - as flawed as it currently is - at least had a system of tracking discoveries.
Is there a way to secure the origination of a photo or site discovery?
Sorry Joost, but get used to it. Douchebaggery runs rampant around here.

Purpose.
A place to discuss the merits of various social networking and blogging platforms, including Tumblr and Stumbleupon; also any other web 2.0 services anyone feels the need to recommend, review, or criticize.
How to use integrate, and appreciate the internet through these web tools.
